K2A's founder, Justin Sacks, developed LM3 in 2002
while working at the New Economics Foundation.
K2A continues to
pioneer LM3's development and usage internationally. Justin's original handbook, The Money Trail is now available in three languages.
LM3 stands for Local Multiplier 3 and is a methodology for measuring the local multiplier effect
of any budget or expenditure. The multiplier effect is a longstanding economics
concept popularised by economist, John
Maynard Keynes.
The principle behind the local multiplier is that income into a local economy has a multiplied impact on that economy based on how much that income is spent and re-spent.
LM3 enables any organisation to measure how its expenditure circulates in the local economy, yielding a clear and quantifiable figure.
Today, LM3 is available in manual, computer and web-based formats to fit the needs of every user.
